xSoap Box 2013-1sOn Saturday June 22, the 57th annual Soap Box Derby took place on Woodbourne Road in Levittown. About 35 boys and girls ages 7-17 turned out to brave the 1000’ long downhill track, at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. The roadway was lined with hundreds of spectators eager to cheer them on.

Racers compete in three divisions, based on their age, height and experience. Each division winner will have a chance to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship, which is held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.

This year’s local champions were: Tommy Stacherski, Stock Division; Dustin Marion, Super Stock Division; and Brian Carpenter, Masters Division.
